Play a leading role in bring the performing arts back through Operation Eurydice

Let's put our performing artists back to work!

What Is Operation Eurydice?

In the spring of 2020, Opera Santa Barbara shifted its focus to support local artists and advocate for all the performing arts and musicians in Santa Barbara, regardless of genre, while our theatres remained closed. We named this initiative Operation Eurydice after the Greek nymph whom the famed musician and poet Orpheus braved the underworld to bring back to life with the sound of his music. Our goal was to contribute to the recovery of Santa Barbara’s vibrant performing arts scene by making live performances of diverse content available throughout our community while directly supporting local musicians. Now that Santa Barbara County is starting to introduce permissions for live music in its health orders, we will continue Operation Eurydice as we:

  • Bring live music back to as many places in our community as we safely and affordably can
  • Champion and employ creative talent from our region
  • Lead advocacy efforts for the safe reopening of the performing arts

O.E. Live Music Calendar

Opera Santa Barbara is currently presenting three live music series. Find dates, venues, and the musicians and acts for each series at our Live Music Calendar. We hope you will join us in supporting Santa Barbara’s performing arts scene, music venues, and hospitality industries. We are thrilled bring live music back to downtown SB and contribute to the revitalization of downtown Santa Barbara.

ABOUT OPERATION EURYDICE
Creativity. Courage. Community.

In Greek mythology, Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus, who traveled to the underworld to bring her back from the dead with his enchanting music. Operation Eurydice reflects Opera Santa Barbara’s commitment to reviving our struggling performing arts sector and comfort our community with live music and theater during the pandemic.

Until we can return to producing world-class opera performances, Opera SB will focus on safely producing live small-scale events that celebrate all types of music and theater, employ and showcase local artists and reinforce the bond between artists and communities, inspiring courage, unity, and hope. We will also play a leadership role in the advocacy effort for the safe reopening for all the performing arts on the local and state level. For more information visit our website.

If you wish to support our effort to keep music alive and our musicians employed, you can make a tax-deductible donation on this page or by texting "LIVE" to 805-549-4468.

With hope,

Opera Santa Barbara
